To Our Friends and Supporters:

On behalf of the staff and the Board of Trustees of Court Community Service (CCS), I am pleased to offer our twenty-third Annual Report (see link on home page). CCS continued to grow in 2008 setting new records for the number of community service referrals received and community service hours worked in our community. Most importantly, our record setting year translated into record benefits to local agencies and the community at large. Here’s a look back at our accomplishments over the past twenty-three years and highlights from 2008.

Since 1985, Court Community Service…

v     has received 165,026 community service referrals.

v     has benefited area agencies with 5,157,935 hours of community service, valued at more than $36 million.

v     has collected 505,280 bags of litter, 290,150 tires, and 9,269 cubic yards of debris from roadways and properties in Cuyahoga County through our work crew programs.

During 2008 alone, Court Community Service…

v     received 15,589 community service referrals and 365 Carrying Concealed Weapon Program referrals.

v     referrals completed 373,079 hours of community service work at more than 350 area agencies, valued at more than $2.6 million.

v     work crews collected 48,430 bags of litter, 16,668 tires, and 1,971 cubic yards of debris throughout Cuyahoga County.

v     assisted more 806 Cleveland low-income senior citizens with lawn mowing, leaf raking, and snow shoveling.

The 2008 recipient of the seventh annual Ronald B. Adrine Award was the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) and Family Thrift Stores. The main center is located on Cleveland’s east side. In addition, eight thrift stores, whose revenues support ARC programs, are located in Brooklyn, Cleveland, Elyria, Mayfield Hts., Mentor, N. Randall, Strongsville, and Willowick. ARC programs provide housing, medical attention, and educational aid to individuals seeking help for alcohol or drug addiction. Salvation Army ARC has participated as a community service worksite since 1985 when CCS was founded. Individuals referred by CCS help in its thrift stores sorting and stocking donated goods, cleaning, assisting with deliveries, and loading and unloading trucks. Since 1985, individuals referred by CCS to the Salvation Army ARC and its thrift stores have performed more than 174,000 hours of community service valued at more than $1.2 million.

In closing, we thank our dedicated team of 46 volunteers who contributed 8,625 hours of their time and talent to Court Community Service in 2008. More than ever with an increasing caseload and a challenging fiscal environment, their contribution is vital to our continued success. Thanks to their efforts and the support of our partnering courts and agency work sites, we can look forward to another record year in 2009.
